On Thursday, August 31, MTV will air the Video Music Awards, which award the best - nah, most POPULAR - music videos around. Hey, what the dunk? How can a network now airing 60 hours of "My Super Sweet 16" and "Why Can't I Be You" honor music videos? Remember back in the 1980s/1990s/before 2005 when MTV actually aired videos at a viewable time? Now, I think it should go off the air, now that music videos are more of a web thing, not for TV. You know why Tech TV went off the air? Because technology-related stuff became a web thing, you know, the "This Week in Tech" podcast and others. I think MTV should change its name to Fuse and be a general YA entertainment channel than pose as "Music Television" and show only 2 hrs. of music a day.
Now regarding the VMA's, I just went to MTV.com (just stfu) and voted. Apparantly, they allow people from just one computer to vote multiple times, and if I ran the VMA's, here's what would win. These are what I voted for based on what they provided.
Best New Artists in a Video - Avenged Sevenfold "Bat Country"
Video of the year - Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California"
Best Male Video - James Blunt "You're Beautiful" - a much better choice would be "Dani California"
Best Female Video - Kelly Clarkson "Because of You" - a much better choice is "Listen to your Heart" by D.H.T.
Best Group Video - Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California"
Best Rap Video - Chamillionaire w/Krayzie Bone "Ridin" - all of em suck but this is the best i could think of
Best R&B Video - Mariah Carey "Shake it Off"
Best Hip hop video - Common "Testify"
Best dance video - Shakira w/Wyclef "Hips Don't Lie" - dancepop sucks but this is the best i could think of
Best rock video - Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California"
Best pop video - Shakira "Hips don't lie" - ugh i need to puke
